On Saturday, we went to the Anglican Church summer fest. It had balloons, games, and face painting, with food and other booths of items for sale. We won a dinner from the tombola. Tombola is apparently the British term for a raffle (I had never heard of it). Sunday Graham and Michelle actually met and played with four of the local kids on our street. They range in age from 9 to 15. Our landlords were nice enough to host a party to introduce the kids to each other. They played together great. Language wasn't too much of a problem, the older girl could translate when she needed to. Of course, some of my science tricks came in handy to break the ice - sure glad I brought 'em! I've decided that the hardest thing for me to get used to in Belgium is the kissing. They have this french habit of kissing for hello's and good-byes. This is the thing where you touch cheeks and make a slight smacking noise with your lips. The hassle is that sometimes they do two kisses and sometimes three. I find it awkward and I never initiate it but I have learned to see it coming. Of course, guys also 'kiss' guys - in that case, I'm quick to stick my hand out to shake on a hello or good-bye! more later, Lynn
