Well, we found a Baptist church. The amazing thing is that it is just around the corner - a two minute walk!! It is English speaking and the pastor is from North Carolina (Charlotte). Most of the congregation, though, is not american. It seems to be either African or British. It is quite a change from the Anglican Church - with the liturgy and chants. The Baptist church doesn't seem to have a piano player... but they do have an African drummer! They also have someone who plays the guitar, but most of the songs are sung without instruments. We clap and sway and sing old hymns loudly. The preacher (Will Martin) delivers Biblically sound sermons - they are organized, sincere, and effective. It impresses me how Christianity is such a simple religion. I have missed hearing the simple message of Jesus. Anyone can grasp the main idea of forgiveness - but, oh, the living part. That's what makes it the hardest religion in the world! I need a weekly attitude adjustment. Graham and Michelle have made really good friends with a family down the street. Mattias is 13 and Evelen is 15. They speak English, so Graham and Michelle gravitate to them like a magnet. Evelen especially shows maturity in befriending Michelle. They invited our kids to spend a few days in their cottage outside the city - it is beautiful there. They are very nice, and I hope to return the kindness someday in Raleigh. We also met our Belgian friends from Raleigh! Karen's sister works in the diamond trade and would love to take us on a tour. I am very interested in that unusual business! All the folks we've met are really friendly, and go out of their way to help us out - we consider ourselves fortunate.
