The Fogwell's Halloween Party

invitation

We had a Halloween costume party for our friends in Belgium. We bobbed for apples (on a string), ate dirt, and carved pumpkins. Graham, Michelle, and Evelyne did most of the decorating. The kids even did some of those boxes where you stick your hand in and feel eyeballs, brains, etc. The costumes were pretty good - especially since this was the first costume party for most of the folks there. I also managed to put together almost 4 hours of MP3's for a continuous soundtrack of mostly oldies. My Mac is great! It was nice not to have to constantly remember to swap CD's.

Everyone's pumpkin turned out great. We took them up to the roof, set them outside, and lit them. The jack-o-lantern photos with the moon in the background are especially nice. I learned an interesting thing at the party. There is a tradition here of carving Jack-O-lanterns out of sugar beets! Sugar beets can get pretty big (over a foot in diameter). People hollow out the inside and then carve out a face and stick a candle in. Sugar beets are probably a more useful crop than pumpkins!
