In Chinese, the number 4 (sì) is very bad luck. It sounds a lot like 'sĭ' which means 'death'. My translator said 13 is missing because of the Hong Kong (western) influence. Tall building trivia: it is only bad luck for the number to END in 4. Floors in the 40's are OK, except 44 (sì shí sì).
